Research shows that learning music whether through individual, paired or group work is very beneficial to the overall development of young people. I have attached below an article explaining more about this phenomenon. Over the years here at St. Peter’s we have had a strong tradition of high-level music-making. During 2016 a former vocal student reached the No. 1 spot in the Official UK Singles and American Billboard Charts with Drake, a top Canadian rapper, and sustained this position for 15 weeks in the UK and 9 weeks in the USA! She attended the AMA awards in Los Angeles and sang on stage at the O2 Arena. Earlier this year one vocal student performed regularly on stage at Disneyland Paris for a season and sang solo on stage accompanied by the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra! Some students have left the school and performed in the West End, gained record contracts with ‘Columbia Records’, ‘Sony’ and ‘Ministry of Sound’ and others have won the regional final of the ‘Rotary Young Musician Of The Year’ competition at Melton Mowbray Theatre. These students had a dream, believed in their musical ability and achieved their goals. With the help of the Cambridgeshire Music Hub we are inspiring the next generation of St. Peter’s students to do the same!

The St. Peter’s Music School is FREE for all to attend. There are six main activities; St. Peter’s Community Choir, Music Technology Club, Steel Pan Band, Keyboard Club, Dance Group and Pop Groups. All students have the opportunity to use the cutting-edge music production software housed in the new iMac Suite in the Music Department to compose their own original music, which maybe music for a moving image or a pop song. This hardware and software is used by many famous artists and professional studios around the world at the present time. Each activity lasts for ¾ -hour and we have a Bromcom electronic register to ensure student safety.

During the two ¾ -hour sessions it is possible for students to leave one of the main activities for 20 mins to have a single or shared lesson on piano, guitar, drums, woodwind instruments, brass instruments etc. However, if students wish to participate in these lessons there is a cost implication but some may be eligible for free or part-subsidized lessons.

Parents / guardians should ensure that the students have safe transport to and from St. Peter’s on Thursday afternoons and that they are picked up promptly each week no later than 5.15pm.

Thank you for your attention in this matter and I look forward to seeing your son / daughter at the St. Peter’s Music School!
