English: Key Stage 5 Literature

The department offers two A-Level courses for our Sixth Form students:

•AQA English Literature- Specification A

•AQA English Language

Students in year 12 and 13 are allocated four lessons of English per week, all students will work towards completing the A level in their second year of study.

 

 

English Literature:

Students will sit the AQA English Literature (Specification A) A Level.

Text Choices:

Students will study:

  • William Shakespeare: Othello
  • Carol Ann Duffy: Feminine Gospels
  • Arthur Miller: All My Sons
  • Jeanette Winterson: Oranges are not the only Fruit
  • Henrick Ibsen: A Doll’s House
  • F. Scott Fitzgerald: A Great Gatsby

Assessment:

Students will sit two examinations at the end of year 13 as well as completing an independent NEA.

Non- exam Assessment- Language in Action

 

 

Students will have the opportunity to compare two texts of their choice – one written pre-1900 – exploring how a key theme or idea is presented in both. This essay is 2,500 words and is an opportunity for students to demonstrate the skills you have learned during their study.
