Record Cup run for Footballers
17th January 2019
The St Peter’s School Year 7 football team had an amazing run in the ESFA Under-12 National Cup this year, eventually going out to a well drilled school from St Albans in the last 32.
The run started back in October when they played Neale Wade, winning 4-1. Then came the City of Peterborough school, who they thrashed 8-2. Nene Park were next and this was a tighter affair, eventually winning 1-0 thanks to a sublime goal from our Y7 Striker.
St Peter’s then had to travel all the way to King’s Lynn to play King Edward VII Academy, brushing them aside 6-1. Then they faced Benjamin Britten Academy in Lowestoft and this was the furthest that any team at St Peter’s has had to travel for a sports fixture.
They won this round 4-1, and the win made the fish and chips taste even better! The final round was against Sandringham School and they proved too strong for the St Peter’s team, who went down 2-0 in a tight match.
The team made it to the last 32 schools in the country, a feat which has never been achieved by any team at St Peter’s School.
It was a fantastic journey with the team and Head of PE, Paul Robson, is looking forward to seeing the team in action in the league this year and then the National Cup again next year.
